Five hundred times I’ve committed words to paper, then set them free in this wild kingdom den where authors congregate, gathering ‘round to observe my offerings. Some appreciating what they see, others click by sans comment. I pray there are none who think, nothing good can come from her pen. But a poet never knows and so it goes.
So here I am presenting a new exhibit, 500th of its kind, yet an original creation, not exactly like anything that has come before. What do you think? Do you like it? Shall I feel better because you do? Do you hate it? Think it’s nothing, really, only disguised as something new? If you say so, I’ll only laugh, you know… then cry and pray and try to think again that something good can come from my pen. But a poet never knows and so it goes.
Congrats on your 500th poem. Yes a poet never quite knows for sure, do they? I have enjoyed what I have read within this port and look forward to reading more :-)
Congrats on 500 of what I believe to be
some excellent work. I always enjoy your
poems. Listen if I were to follow my
instinct I probably wouldn't post a one
of mine, being my own worst critic. So
that being said I have gained many friends
here, they treat me so kind. I know how
thankful I am for that, so never fear I
know a lot of people that love your work.

Kate just wrote my comment. I rarely think my poems are any good when I post them, but they grow on me as I read the comments and see how others viewed what I wrote. Posting a poem is kind of like walking into a room of strangers while stark naked. It takes a bit of courage and self assuredness simply in the exposing. Whatever happens after that is just response to the action. The nice thing about poetry is that it is subjective, so no matter what my thoughts were going into the write, it is all about what the reader gets out of it and how the words affect them and their lives.
Take care,
Sherry
F-I-V-E H-U-N-D-R-E-D?????!!!!! Wow!!! That's mega... but why am I not surprised?! You ARE a poet, Dawn; it is the air that you breathe, so how can you not keep writing/breathing day after day? So true... a poet just never knows what will strike the chords or leave a blank: to be completely honest, it is those poems that I have often felt the most ambivalence for that seem to have been rated most highly, whilst those that I think glow with all my heart, soul and shiny-brightness are left just for me to enjoy!! TRUE!! So, that is reason enough to keep doing what you're blessed with and gifted to do, and leave it to the rest of us to appreciate and revel in, in the sastisfaction of the knowledge that WHATEVER you write is never one word or one precious moment of your time that is wasted - EVER. And I mean it. Many congratulations and here's to the next 500... LOL Kate xx
