Mine seems to you a wasted life, whittled down by a series of unfortunate events – something to sit and shake your head about over coffee with the friends you take for granted. You look at me now and you see death, only thorns.
Dormant so long, my heart forgets all the days growing in the light of generosity you shared from your soul. I will bloom again, full as my love for you, sure as a climbing vine. You will look and see I’ve become a lovely rose.
The scent of spring wafts on the periphery. I am leaning so far as life’s straight jacket allows me pliability. Soon, these chains will break. I will stumble clear of this pain that keeps me bound, unresponsive to sun and rain.
Awesome job, Dawn. If we let others beat us down and allow their actions to steal away our happiness, then we have chosen not to be alive. No one else is worth that. We are granted just so many days: when the end is near we will weep for each one we wasted over situations we couldn't change.
