Are we in exile then? Lord, have you removed us only to preserve us and to protect us from ruin? Though we feel uprooted, tossed aside, the best of us left rotting beneath a brutal sun, could it be that you will yet plant us tenderly and share sustaining spirit of your vine through which we, who cling to you, shall know you by heart?
We have wept endless tears, lost homes and friends in familiar country where kings still prosper, eating fat off the land where we sweated blood. Here, we stare into a future, dry as this dusty desert wasteland. This vast landscape is haunted by sweet songs we have not yet learned to sing by willow waters weeping.
A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
