Security was never a word
that appealed to me.
Forging my way through travesty,
I would say, “ ~ just watch me!”

I flew far and free with the power
of my practiced wing,
believed in self-sufficiency,
I could do anything.

Plucked of feathers and pushed from the nest:
unexpected fate.
Humbly I acknowledge now what
I may have learned late.

When others reach for familiar fold,
I’ll not scoff or chafe.
I’ve long since surrendered success
and just want to be safe.
