Hi all. Been on vacation in Texas for awhile. Will be back to reading no later than Monday. Miised you all. ~D.
Deep in the heart of Texas, that wide swath of promise you call home, I stood on shaky, if familiar, ground. A lone star rising in the East, my renegade heart beat wild as the West. It was Independence Day.
Fireworks cut through the dry heat and lit up the night sky in me. Free bird that I am, I sang, glad to belong to something other than my ghost town past and the tyranny of you.
Oh, say, did you see stars fall and stripes ripple like waves of grace healing broken place in me? There was proof, through night, of love’s kinder, gentler destiny.
By dawn’s early light I saw future flag of my freedom unfurled, colors of you flung far and burning bright as stars in a Texas sky.
I look at the TX sky every-morn and the sun-set too, colors so beautiful, hard to describe. I thank my creator. I will always love my sky, it hepls me to dream, my muse is alive and well. I played in the pooring rain a few days ago, washed away my sins.
It sounds like Texas agrees with you, Dawn. Your words are as fertile and giving as the land of Texas herself. Excellent images and metaphor.
Take care,
Sherry
In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
Texas is brighter for having had you there--wish we could have talked. :(
A most beautifully written, imaged piece--thank you!
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :)
Good to read you again!!
