Continued Flow

Your unexpected attack fell sudden
as a woodsman’s axe. Swift, steady blows
failed to break my spirit, but split my mind
about you.

From places in my heart, where incisions
cut but could not sever, gushed forth strong,
equal streams, one of sadness, another
of pure hope.

I find my solace in continued flow,
acknowledge increased capacity
to live and breathe, to give, and to love you
all the more.

To love so deeply is the lesson to be
learned I suppose. It hurts so to be cut though.

That first attack always seems to shatter our dreams of a perfect person/relationship. The flip-side is one of realizing the human side of them and understanding that they trust you enough to allow you to know their imperfections. Excellent write.

Nice simile "as a woodsman's axe." Love is a mixed bag sometimes; intense emotions that as you say "live and breathe" inside us; a visceral rendition.
