In my dilapidated house I stole away and steeled myself against a world more cruel and cutthroat than I had imagined. But fear gripped me, choking my will to live.
In my room, I found retreat from shadows on the wall, memories in the hall, reminders of my fall and the hell it spawned. Still, artificial light pierced my soul with how it might have been.
In the dark, I hid, unmoving and unknowing, only slightly living in a self-made cave I prayed could protect me from stalactite pain dropping down. But tears consumed me, and breathing ceased to matter.
In the crevasses of mind, I ran wild. Echoes of love I’d been denied bounced off the canyon walls. I ran and came to a river wide and welcoming for me to lay upon and float far in my imagination to an ocean of hope.
One day I know I will find my home when Love itself deposits me gently on a shore where I have always meant to be, where I am loved and celebrated, where there are no dark rooms. And I shall lie naked beneath a sky of grace.
look within your heart and you will find home. it's already there ... celebrate it beneath an uncompromised sky of grace and within the depth of your imagination and creative verve ...
The song of a survivor and a saint, Dawn! So graphically illustrated with a poignany that is tangible and palpable. Love the metaphor and imagery. You take us there, and onward and upward with you. Can really feel the relief and the exhaustion at the end. You have a great gift of immediacy. Although you speak of "place", what really struck me was the sense of that "place" that you are unable to shrug off, because it lives within. So the sense of an awaited internal as well as external liberation is anticipated, which is neat and clever. I always love the physical shape of your work on the page, too. Bless you and thank you, Kate xx
Loved the metaphor Dawn. I agree with Sue,you ended with hope which isn't easy in our present day culture. I think we are all feeling as Ed K.wrote like orphans. Most of us are in retreat whenever we can be, hoping to get away from the negativity of the reality. Write on Sis,and keep the faith!;-)
