This is the first poem I have posted written by my son, Luke, who is 12. He wrote it today and Mom thinks it's pretty darn wonderful... :) Thanks for your encouragement! Dawn

Trees swaying in the wind

Whispering a silent, reverent hymn

Praising that which lets them grow

And giving thanks to ground below

As I wander through the trees

Lost in silent reverie

Wandering by,

Wondering why

Why the trees reach up to the sky

Why the birds have wings to fly

Why the world is not a better place

Why down the road troubles await

Of some far, dark, distant fate

To proclaim that which cannot be told

The theme of tales, dusty and old

Of heroism, courage, and the strength to be bold

Why in our palms weapons we hold

To defend the weak and young and old

And all that stands for well and good

All that should be understood

Will stand and wait for the key

That will unlock this mystery

Found along a distant path

A key that will unlock and unfold

The mystery of the heart and soul

Wondering at the forest to behold

Why mysteries hide answers yet untold

Dawn, as most have already said, “Luke is a chip off the old block.” I also believe his work is a shining testament of one who seeks to find solace while traversing through the quagmire of living life. Outstanding work young man, and thank you Dawn for sharing your Den to post his work with us all. Keep up the great work Luke. Take care and be well.
