I broke down
on the side of the road.
I’m a wreck.
My car’s just fine but I
lost my mind
at the sight
of big white polka dots
on smooth black
fabric.

I’d given
the dress away today
to a storm
survivor and then out
of the blue
comes screaming
back ghost of you. I could
not get through,
around.

The world went
blank; there wasn’t a sound.
I dissolved
in tears, thinking maybe
this same dress
represents
wild woman you two thought
I was then,
sinking down now in dark
field dreams

September
winds stir. This Autumn will
surely find
me at my most alive.
But full, round,
white flakes will fall and I
will lose it
when the next long dark night
comes round.
