I Just Let Go

Tears pooling inside to form familiar
lakes of sorrow, I fell asleep yesterday.

Hollow and filling up with the debris
of yesterday’s storm, I could not breathe.
And so I allowed all that remained of me
to drift through the refuse, a reminder
of what once was beautiful.

My soul still screaming, I lost my voice.
I closed my eyes.

Weary from wanting to be found by the essence
of hope, to know one and be known by one,
to be embraced and cherished
and wrapped in wings
at last,

I just let go
and surrendered to the storm that raged around me.

I quit seeking shelter
and looked no more for you who have heard my cry
and say you are coming, I will be fine, look
for God’s helicopter.

I just let go
and became the starless night, scared and silent.

I no longer grieved
the absence of someone who might simply stand
alongside me as the waters rose nor did I wish
for heaven’s rescue.

I just let go
and stood, small against the driving rains inside my life.

Sleep entered into me, and I thought it would be
the final curtain. But in dreams, a wordless explorer
came to me to investigate the damage and rouse
the wounded survivor in me.

I might have screamed at him delirious with the rage
of having been forgotten, discarded like yesterday’s trash.
I might have refused to hear him.
Or let the echo of his spirit usher me into oblivion.

But I just let go
and let the sweet salve of his presence in any world at all
wash over a landscape of shattered possibility.

I just let go
and let the wordless explorer pick me up
and carry me home to the self ripped beyond recognition
by unfavorable winds.

I just let go
and began to breathe
again.

WWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! STUNNING!! Absolutely, MWAH!! Keeping for sure. Just love this total SCREAM and absolute LETTING GO - and so vivid, contemporary and cinematic, too. A total winner, Dawn and I don't think I have ever read anything that holds that energy and tension so successfully between the two extremes. DRAMATIC and plain brilliant. All my nerve endings seem to be in the tips of my fingers right now.... TY, Bless you, LOL Kate xx

OMG this one speaks to me LOUD AND CLEAR...I know this feeling all to well...when storms of life comes down on me I just go silent and let it come down and until it calm down....then I weep in silence my keyboard my sole companion...and my silent readers to comfort me!!

Love Tinka

Dawn,

Your words have left me in tears...such a beautiful, powerfully poignant write! I have no idea what it is like for those who are facing this tragedy, but I have a feeling this hits closer to home than we'd like. BRAVA! I'm saving this one--thank you!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(

Hang on a mo' Eileens hanging on and you're letting go.
But when we let go. The best does happen. Healing is allowed the break through..

This even gives the reader a feeling of release, that's great. It makes me think of how I had to let go and accept that my life was different, that I had to learn to actually live with an illness. Thanks for this, it made me let go again while reading it, as it is very easy to cling again.

An inner struggle that seems to leave
you with so much pain. Yet you have
hope and therein lies beauty. So it's
the dualitys that step forth. Great!

A great search into one's loneliness and feelings of abandonment. But as the poet discovers, letting go is the key. Well written and expressed with compassion.

Dawn this is a majestic poem, so awesome in beauty of recognition and understanding of the broken heart and the only one, along with you, who can mend it. A phenomonal write I consider it your best among all the great ones you do. It needs to be published! Brava!

Love,
Eileen

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
