    Something more...

I require no more blithe assertions,
no more mindless ministrations to assuage my pain.
I have little patience for provincial poetry and care not
for proclamations penned precise, politically correct.
I tire of sloppy verse that skips
and skims the surface.

     Give me something more…

Give me poetry that skins an idea.
Come, poet-muse, bite clean into my heart
until the mysterious taste of my forgotten life
drips succulent from lips parted but parched
by shriveled language and those reckless
wielders of wanton words.

     Give me something more…

Call forth tears that would well up in me
to water this world. Your poems, so like a spigot
that releases what is yet untapped within me. Come now,
let your words be always growing. Though never
fully formed within me, they are becoming,
and I am becoming,

     something more.

Powerful and clear, this poem rings into my soul. I often think that poetry skims the surface and stories pack with detail. Poetry is more subjective, which makes it great for the reader, but as a writer, so many times, I wish that I had penned a much meatier offering that bled my soul onto the page. Excellent write!!!
Take care,
Sherry

Dawn, I believe we all want “something more!” In one’s attempt to bridge the gap of inequity, we tend to trip over everything in our way instead of marching directly through it. This is an outstanding creation, my friend. The usage of the repetitive phrase “something more,” compels one to “feel” the raw power in this timeless treasure. Thank you for sharing it. Take good care and be well.

Your words are like lava flowing through my mind, Dawn, and echo my sentiments on the 'correctness of poetry'.

You have a lovely talent for subtle blasting of words which become a peaen to the beauty of themselves.

This poem, of extraordinary design, is a masterpiece of perception of the true meaning of poetry, illumination.

You are 'Something More'.
