Yesterday’s Goodbye

Swirling, spinning in separate spheres,
we kept our distance, and also the truth,
with our well-rehearsed avoidance.

We neither embraced our own heart’s song
nor exchanged whispered regrets. We refused
to bow to what was evident, if unspoken.

Was it fear or deep-rooted respect that
drove us to dance, point and counterpoint,
and to deny force of growing love?

Why did we pirouette fast and far away
into opposite corners, find ourselves without
inspiration when life’s music stopped?

Might we have stepped more lightly,
laughed again or held close another partner
had we allowed yesterday’s goodbye?

Or was our inability to stop and listen
to love’s tune our last-dance tribute to past,
purest pledge of our present tethered hearts?

A metophorically poignant piece Dawn superbly done.

This is gut-wrenchingly real and visceral, Dawn, while yet allowing the reader the privacy of space to read through the metaphor and analogy: perhaps that's what makes it just so powerful, allowing its impact to have full force. Facing the truth is never without consequences and risk, and hence, so many lives spiral on out of kilter and unbalanced by a reality that is forever denied. Tender, penetrating - and heartbreaking! And, to boot, your poetry is of its usual high standards of tightness, skill and considered make-up. TY and bless you, Kate xx

this poem vibrates with an internal energy, captivating the mind & soul with the essence of a probing heart ... the alliteration, meter and metaphor are meticulously empowering, questioning what is and what may have been if only love would take the time to listen to itself ...

Your use of metaphor mingles through the verse taking what could easily be read at face value and adding a deeper layer that strikes deep into the heart. Your ability to blend both in such a cohesive manner shows your amazing talents as a writer.
Take care,
Sherry

Such great intelligent metaphors. The fifth stanza says so much.
Good question at the end...

Great use of metaphor. Interesting how you used dancing as a way of showing two people moving in different directions. You have a gift of poinancy.

Next Arrivals by Robin Ouzman Hislop

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
