Squinting into stillborn dark, I spy a spreading sleeping sickness, slowly suffocating the life out of me. An invisible gas, it engulfs me, seeps in through my porous mind drip by drop by drip. L is for lackluster, lacking life, limited use.
Rolling out of bed, I hit the floor, eyes enlarged, skin shocked and shriveled by sting of another morning, more of same. Mouth agape, I must don my armor of protection, smell my coffee and numb this feeling of obsolete. O is for obtuse, out of fashion, over and done.
Crying as I pick out inadequate clothes, I know it really doesn’t matter what I wear ’cause I’m not going anywhere. Picked last or picked and put out with the trash, I opt to opt out, relinquishing hope of finding some place to belong. N is for nevermind, not needed, non-entity.
Observing flecks of falling flakes, I think of how you think it’s all so easy and I’m so lucky because nobody wants me to be their one and only or even their just this once upon a time. A happy couple waltzes by; why is it E is for everybody loves somebody else?
Caressing a ring of keys as if it were the symbol of a promise that everything will be alright, I imagine where I’d go if I could. But I never move from the kitchen table. Staring far into nothing, I shrink again, becoming who you said I was. L is for lilting, leaving, languishing in despair.
Composing poems in my head, hoping to avoid shadows lengthening, I try and try again to write you out of my life to no avail. Even this messy alphabet soup of a poem is flavored with you. Spice it up, pare it down, stir it any way you please, Y is for spinning yarns, yesterday and you.

Reviews of "Lonely Day Makes for a Lackluster Poem "
Nothing lackluster about this creative, expressive write, Dawn. Your gift is shining here. Loneliness must be catching though. I've been coming across that mood in quite a few poems lately. ~~Nordette
After all of this time, I think I am beginning to appreciate writers in a way that I haven't before. I certainly appreciate you and your ability to transfer your feelings to paper. You bring the reader into your soul. I know the disability you write about. The mental anguish and imobile state. A breathtaking write.

What a unique and creative read. Many thoughts and prayers that the lonliness will soon end.
as far as technique this poem is far from lackluster ... i really like the " L O N E L Y" within the poem and how you grouped the images in most effective ... as far as content, i'm sure we all have mornings like this but not too many that will produce a very valid poem from within them ...

Very creative and excellent writing skills. Great capture of the essense of the lonely. Open the door you might be surprised what is on the other side.
My dear Dawn this poem is about as lackluster as the northern lights! It is a gift to the reader written with creativity and a bit of magic thrown in. In fact I wish you were feeling as good as this poem is, you'd be high as a kite!;-)
Snap out of it girlfriend!! LOL! This is an excellent poem and I don't believe that it is lackluster at all. The only way that you will lift yourself from the darkness is if you teach yourself to believe that you belong in the light. There is a reason that some people are in our past, and in the long run, it is best kept that way. Close the box on the golden dreams of yesterday that have been tarnished by time and by hurtful words. Love is a gift that we give to ourself and not something that anyone else can give us. Turn the page and find yourself alone and strong; find your heart filled with love of self and open to accepting that you can love another. It is the only chance you have at happiness and at reaching your dreams. Powerful write, Dawn.
Welcome!
The poems in this beautifully bound book are a result of over twenty years of observations. Observations of the world around us and on the telecommunications network. All of the hate, love, heroism, disasters, and those who help.
