trying to coax me back
from the slippery edge
of this void.

lusting after my every
grasp for hope, glimpse
of starry skies.

            Yours was the steady hand I believed
            would reach for mine.

I inhaled the beauty of your soul,
breathing the promise
of your poetic
proclamation.

            I remembered gentle caress of your
            first and last words in my life.

All day
dark thoughts tried to convince me,
whispering sinister lies,
saying you’d think me
crazy if you knew.

            Then I read the truth you wrote, found  
            the light you will always be.
