Is It Really Peace We Want?

Is it really peace we want?

It doesn't seem so as this one
does whatever it takes to grab
a bigger piece as that one
shells whatever moves,
bombs and bullets screaming,
"Mine, mine, mine."

Meanwhile terror grows
like kudzu on the abandoned highway
toward faithfulness, crowding out
the light of hope and reason
with towering vines that choke
view of earth and sky.

Remember peace? Remember now
that peace left for us, remnant of hope
from which we might piece together
with the thread of understanding
some future that finds us following
faith, one stitch at a time.

Or is it really peace we want?

Excellence in thought provoking verse; I like what Eileen said: we shout peace but whisper war. Ain't it the truth. Well done, Dawn!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

There is no peace for the world as long as there is an absence of peace within the very depths of ourselves, I guess. What absolutely terrifies me is that whilst we all react to stimuli which either raises peace or war levels on a personal level, we react out of our own psycho-watertables and react to "the rest of the world" as if it were one problematic lump of humanity we are casting judgement on, as if we can somehow distance ourselves from it. Until we see the whole world as a conglomeration of people with sensibilities and feelings much the same as ours, we will continue to both judge and react as like little children: "I am the centre of the world and whatever else is out there has little meaning for me personally." I can't see that peace will ever come by drawing a line in the sand and forcing the population of the world onto one side or the other of it... every nation affected is a mixture of moderates of both, of many, in fact. Making no sense, but neither is war and peace at the moment. Even if I don't sound it, I like what you're getting at here, Dawn... and what you say... in more lucid terms than me this morning. Be well. LOL Kate xx

we have tried to give peace a chance but it has decided to bite us instead ...

Sadly, Dawn, to achieve peace, the greedy will have to surrender. Not much prospect of that happening...
A sage write, poetess. Well done,
Peace and Blessings (nevertheless...)

As Jude said, peace is an oxymoron! This poem goes straight to the heart of the matter and convicts us, making us find the true answer, which may surprise us, if we are honest. Excellent Dawn! I think we are a contentious race otherwise why so many poor relationships
divorces, etc. We shout peace, while we whisper war.

I wonder too, Dawn. Things really have not evolved towards peace in the history of man on this planet and look at the state of the world today. I think we should kick all the men out of power and try women for a while. At least it would be some change. Thanks for sharing your sentiments. Love and peace to you,

Regis
