Captain, to the Sea!

You are the captain arriving promptly
on deck, ever on time for the task at hand.
You assume control, naturally take command.

Ever peering through your telescope,
you read the currents and study the sea.
You are soul master of your destiny.

You lead your crew with valor and vision,
adjust the rudder and sail with confidence
toward land you always sought to find.

Uncontained, I am the spirit of the sea, only
partially captured in carved curves on your ship,
leaning headfirst into the crashing waves.

Untamed as wind and sea, I am ever-changing
and becoming who knows what. Alone, I find my way -
a willing explorer unsure of what lies ahead, beneath.

Unafraid, into the deep unknown I plunge again
only to resurface in resplendent, spiralled joy.
It is the dance, the dream, the dare I love.

Together, we are the music rising forth:
I, trilling highs, resonant lows, rich tones of mystery;
you, sure and steady beat, familiar chorus coming 'round.

When I have lost my way and would be drowned
by self-made misery, I listen for firm baseline
of your presence, follow my heart toward home.

And when you have had enough of distant shores,
I wonder will you turn back toward the open sea and,
in a moment of abandon, captain, swim with me?

A unique look at life...and how we face it. I can see some of myself in each. Your verses pull the reader in and it is easy to bring the picture of the captain and ship and waves to mind...
