Because you loved me enough
you gave me the moment
I'm not even sure you knew
you were giving and
then you let me go.
And in a split second
that seemed an eternity
I understood who I was
and who you were and are
then, now and forevermore.
Because you loved me enough
you kept the promise of pain that
became a pathway, singular opportunity
for me to learn again to love.
The way is never easy.
Spinning through the years
I have held onto the treasure
my heart knows you laid aside
to grant me a gift that
requires sacrifice.
Because you loved me enough
you have left me alone and held
your end of our souls' bargain,
acting on the instinct you have
now forgotten you hold inside.
I forget, too. I reach and plead
for God to undo what had to be done
if we were to rise from our patterned
betrayals, that desperate dance
of give and take, loss and gain.
Because I have loved you enough
here I have loved you enough that
in some second yet to pass between us
you will see as if for the first time that
I will love you enough always...
