Something happens to us when truth is unveiled
and everything turns on its head.
The lamb becomes lion; the lion, a lamb,
and we are shaken loose, released
To take up the sword and do harm or to run,
to swear that we never knew you
or to be caught up in seeming injustice,
swept away in the sands of time.
It is unsettling when day breaks and the dark
drama drags on and we buckle
beneath this world’s crushing weight. The veil is torn,
within as without, and we see
That while we have always believed in your dream,
now we are invited to live —
to be the whole of who we are, unhindered,
and step full into our story.
In centuries that followed after the end
and strange new beginning again,
we stumbled, tripped up by the upside-down,
inside-out Way of Love. Shaken
by a freedom so vast, we shackled ourselves
to one frragment of truth or
the other and, not meaning to, diminished
the freedom for which we have been
Set free. We are remembering, coming back,
waking up in this Great Return
and turning again to the truth that something
happens to us and we are changed,
brought back to life. We stand at the entrance to
an empty tomb, not belonging
to it, waking to the realization
that, alive, we are free to love —
Loosed from all the ties that bind, we are woven
into expanding tapestry
that welcomes all the colors of who we are
