What would I do if you appeared, the fool or the magician,
or everything at once, before me without warning?
I would love.
What would I do if you never opened the door again
and remained in that place where the shadow never falls?
I would love.
I would love with abandon
and love through the memory of your smile
and love through the sorrow
and love to save my life.
You must already know how
I would love to be your friend again, how
I would love to be permitted to be in your world
and not excised from it, so carefully removed.
You must surely know all the ways
I would love for you to underdstand in your heart
that I have only ever loved you, this and no thing other.
I would love for you to see me for who I am,
standing in the here and now this heart and these arms wide open.
You must know how I would love to have a beginning
and not another end, how I would love to have the privilege
of working with you side by side, this time in the great work
we have come here to complete.
I would love to hold your hand, if just for five minutes,
and say nothing at all, and I would love to hold your heart,
for your whole life or for whatever time there is, and say
everything with mine.
But even if none of that ever comes to be I would love you
and trust that somehow your life will be enriched
by that love, expanded and never diminished.
