On the other side of the world, my heart beats
steady along with yours as you descend into
the dream that was real once upon a time. Here,
I climb these heights only thinking myself alone.
Last night, while you were sleeping, I sang you love songs,
and in your waking hours I was dreaming of you. Now,
as I trace the curve of this winding Irish road, feel me
cradle and caress the contour of your cheek.
There, atop Collorus Point, I left a gentle kiss upon your brow
and looked out to the sea with a wave of wistful memories.
Through rain, I walk soft-footed in a moss-covered wood
and send blessings for the lightness of your way.
I give thanks by the towering sycamore for how you
have carried so much so far through time.
Along the Beara shore, a wild wind passes through me
and sweeps us up and into another world, and I will it
to come down to Earth, inviting the rising stars to be your crown
and commanding the heavens to make me your courtly queen.
I would no more betray, only welcome, you, restored
to your rightful kingship to hold the rule of love with me.
In the lyrical language of ancient Eire, I sing a song
of celebration against the haunting sorrow of Atlantic seas.
Though my heart may skip a beat, all is, in an instant,
made perfect and our lives at once complete.
Where there had been silent suffering and kingdoms divided,
now within our two hearts only the peace of the ages abide.
The lilting love of which I speak merges with the vast
and vacillating sea and its lonesome lament.
All is bought to stillness. The whole creation stirs.
Without need of remembering, we lay down our heads.
Together on the pillowed green, we dream another world
where one day we will awake to the dawn of a glorious future,
our hearts unshaken by a distant storm approaching or the echo
of all the losses we now choose to leave behind.
On the other side of the world, your heart beats
steady along with mine as you ascend into the life
that is ours to create in this sacred now. I fall softly
into the downy featherbed, soaring in my dreams.
We fly together through another day, you by golden sun,
me by moonlit waters that carry me ever back to you.
