I traveled back in time last night,
flew to find you standing by the water
in a moment that changed everything
to tell you, that sweet boy without inhibition
whose purity was too much for those around you,
that it wasn't true . You didn't have to be
the little soldier they made you into
and fall in line, forgetting vast circles
of time you were meant to trace
with the wide circle of your love.

You saw me and smiled and I asked you
to remember me without my wings, when
you met me one day and saw me tracing
a memory, drawing circles in the sand or dancing
somewhere out on the edge of everything, calling
your heart to come home to where we have always
belonged. I saw you turn to do as you were told
and I agreed then and there to have and hold
all the dreams that slipped into the silver sea
until the day against all odds you would find me.

I hear you whispering through time
and know how you dared to don your wings
and fly to me as I stood poised for my jump
into oblivion, having found it more dificult than you
to be told not to march to beat of my heart's drum.
Because you knew I am the type to sail on,
fling myself upon the winds of consequence,
daring Spirit to sweep me up into the air,
you sang me a lullaby to coax me into comfort,
bringing the sweet hereafter back to now.

I smiled with my heart, if not my lips. You
asked me to remember you without you wings,
when I met you one day and heard you reciting
refrain from a broken record, talking in circles,
too afraid of how I lived too close to the edge.
You told me then to listen for true st tones
in your life's song calling me to come home.
You watched me back down, brokenhearted nonetheless,
and vowed to have and hold dreams that flew away
until that day, against all odds, I would find you.

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
