The devil is in the details.
I was seeing clearly all the patterns
that for three decades now I have known
by heart but was missing utterly the intricacies,
the why and wherefores of what had me
willingly allowing you to give me
little scraps and messages in spirit
even as you failed to live in truth,
here, there, or anywhere.
I thought for so long you saw
the big picture but now I see you
were caught up in the red tape you
wrapped yourself in and could not see
the forest for the trees and never knew
at all you belonged anywhere but tracing
the same route that kept you spinning
in a downward spiral further down into
the hell you made for yourself.
The devil is in the details.

A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
