Note to readers and reviewers: my poems are always a call to the collective. They are never only about one small sliver or circumstance. Even when they are rooted in the personal, they are invitation to re-examine priority societally. This, in turn, invites us to do our part by cleaning up what we can. To facilitate better understanding of the broader nature of my poetry, in this poem I have used the royal we. Let us examine what is happening in the throne room—-in many throne rooms across the world, from presidential palaces to the self-proclaimed perennial pauper's predicament. This is not to say wealth or poverty are causal. Quite the opposite. It is the failure to lead our lives and lead them well, with love or without. This often begins with how we think and therefore how we act, who and what we dismiss and how we are remiss, what we nourish or poison our hearts and minds, and how we seek out what help we need or do not. Do not lose heart. Find comfort and healing through the way of compassion (beginning with self), honor and humility.
