If All I Can Remember Feels Like Not Enough

how did it come to this?
who can say? maybe
this was the only way

when a heart so full
is pushed away
by so many
and years pass
and life takes
all the chances
and you can no longer
sustain your faith

in that moment
there has never been
a more perfect day
to give thanks
to see beauty
to touch wonder
to dance, even
if alone, with
mystery

and when the sun sets
and your heart is broken
know in that instance that somewhere
another heart beats in time
and picks up where your
heart stops

let this be your song,
life's rhythm rising to remind you
even though it all went wrong
to still look out to far horizon
even though you cannot see
as once you did and were
denied your last request

even in the silence
that envelops you like
the fog and blur of belonging
to no one and no thing
and the ones you love
cannot be bothered
to utter the simplest of phrases
on the most lonely of days

listen! hear the song rising
from within you, lost fragment
of what they tried to take
and let your tears fall like rain,
pour out your sorrows
for the beauty of the earth
for the glory of the skies

for all the love
they could not see

for the way some day again
a little child shall lead them

if all I can remember
feels like not enough
still I shall say thank you

though my voice fails and I
cannot find the strength to speak
or stand and I am so small

against the seas that stir
beneath storm clouds gathering
I will stand strong and true

snd with my last breath still
I will give thanks for life
and you
