a group of people with a shared characteristic

To be a fool for God and God alone, I am
one who sees she is one with many who allowed
you to reign free. Once I thought you too to belong
but you preferred the deviled path of death. So long…

What then are those same shared characteristics
of said group of unsavory characters?
Or, giving the benefit of the doubt, what does
drive those who have fallen prey to dark practices?

Taken with your performative performances,
mesmerizing state of permeability—
that is to say your moving through form, unable
to reside in the heart whose meaning has been lost,

Said groups seem to share a willingness to place self
above God, all too happy to operate from
pride or pomp and circumstance
at any chance, smiling all the while. They learned well,

This devil’s cohort, evil’s envied entourage.
I have learned too to turn away from you, to run
ever to the arms of God, to be the fool but
not one you made me out to be. I stand in love

And walk in the way of life
you so quickly sacrifice.
