My brothers, I have loved you long
and deeper than the blue
of the sky today.
Tonight the black oozes
from outside the window
envelops me in broken song.
My voice, while strong, fails me here and
I have no words or tune
for yesterday.
Tomorrow may not
come for me and should God
offer me another sunrise,
I wonder if He does whether
I might request reprieve,
otherworldly sea.
