I value education and
the state of our nation

Which seems to be in full decline.
One wonders what makes one

Resort to life of low-level
monitoring and slinking

In shadow, barely covering
their tracks, not minding their

Manners in the manner that they
fail to look up or say

Good morning to next-door neighbor.
It's sad to me to see

Forfeiture of progeny for
some twisted tyranny,

Rolling dollars for death, gambling
on high-risk investment.

Or perhaps someone else has paid
whatever it costs to do such things. 

Nevertheless it seems to me this is
not a good return on investment—

Of life or Ivy League education.
And to break the higher rule of Love

Is bound to bind all players even more.
My desire is for your goodness too,

Stranger who may or may not be danger
to me. I would be a friend but that

Requires honesty, some measure
of integrity in dealing with

All members of the community. 
In world that now begins might we

Live by such principles? Begin within,
with quiet examination of

What you wish to create and give to life—
your own and all others. You will pass

Life's graceful test when you test the spirits
who call on you to do their bidding.
