In eagerness I await
the turning of an hour -
ah, but not just any hour,
the one hour one anticipates,
reaches toward . . .

some shining, sparkling
maybe, might be. I leap
out of the old, unfinished
business of yesterday
that only

weighs me down

and fly into this new year
unburdened, a clean slate
before me, I am unsullied
by mistakes, untarnished
by a lover’s leaving.

Immaculate possibility,
however far-fetched it may
seem tomorrow, is mine
this pristine moment
when time has

set me free.
