I'm trying to keep this one at the top of my poetry postings - I think it was damn good for a 33 year old poet back then. And, I'm thinking of posting the whole composition: "The Ruins of Athens" when I get time. It deserved it back in the 80's and never got it...
and by the way: "loaded dice" can be a good thing when you're on His side...

Part IV: The Tombs of Genius
[From: "The Ruins of Athens"]

"The dice of God are always loaded." (Emerson)

Some men assume that a man's a fool until he proves his genius.
But I know that every man's a genius sometimes disguised as a fool.

Down through time unlocking doors,
of all the mysteries that genius stores.
Only that is saved that merits reflection,
For each is a brick in building a work of perfection.
The hands of time are the hands of God
creation's selection, evolution's prod.
In technologies of wonder we recreate the past
We infuse the present and build toward the future
Though all we do cannot last, we do not grasp
for though the empirical materials of these solid dreams,
are our building's beams,
fall and corrode under time's blast‑ we do not grasp ‑
For left behind is a state of being it seems.
The building of a consciousness, a dream.
We unlock the doors of the tombs of genius.
One by one, we absorb feelings of musical masters.
Of eras, and histories past
And upon the impetus of those forces
We turn and take our present courses.
Our genius lives in the visions we have barely caught,
Striking through the world like a transparent thought.

A great sharing! Many thanks. The perception and depth are quite valid. Genius sometimes lies undiscovered through decades of time. Recognition eventually comes, and with it , greatness and longevity of ones work.....M

Michael this is the dancing poet and I find this piece a masterpiece crafted like artisan of a deminished area. We need to be conscience of the present which is the only moment we can do something about! The past is who we are, the future is who we can become, and the present is most vital but we most learn to keep it simple. Catch you at a later date in the ionosphere brother keep soaring poet.

transparent thoughts... I love that line. I thought a bit about brains this week-- what an amazing gift they are... our imagination and ability to think make us (in part) partners with God-- we become creators on a small scale. Inside each brain, there's a universe of something. I heard Paul Harvey say once, that under the microscope, a brain cell looks like a galaxy. I find that utterly amazing and beautiful because it holds so much truth for me.
Think about it... inside everyone, there are zillions of galaxys just waiting to be created in your imagination. And like a toddler god, we weild our magic--creating--thinking--writing--composing--baking--crafting... and on and on.

Can't help myself... life is just so very beautiful, isn't it? --Charlie

Genius is transparent in the right collection of words, of numbers and other symbols, of paint thrown on canvas with passion, and the sound of music carried on the breeze. It goes unsung and is embraced by all. Thank you for bringing genius to AD.
