Reflections on Fifty Years of Ministry

On May 7, 1960 I was given my license to preach. On the eve of my 50th Anniversary I put together these thoughts.

When I was a child of twelve
I felt God called me to preach.
Didn’t know what it involved
nor what it would take to reach.

Had I known how hard it was
to reach my intended goal
I might have lost my courage
snd not been able to grow.

I preached my way through college
and I was still unafraid.
One time I thought I should quit
but God blessed me and I stayed.

I’ve done it fifty years now
even though I’m now part time.
I’ve survived every valley
and mountains I had to climb.

I’ve prayed with folks in trouble
and danced with those in their joys.
I’ve spent time with the old ones
and with the young girls and boys.

I have moved from church to church
whose salaries kept me humble
and when I overvalued myself
I usually took a tumble.

I guess God is not through with me
as I take time to reflect.
I’ll keep on serving as I can
not knowing what to expect.

There's something about the fifty year mark that brings much reflection. Our 50th anniv. is this month, too. I'm glad you kept at it, Larry. I have a poem "The Call" up on my page right now, written for one who struggled and resisted his call for awhile.
It's awesome that God called you so young and you answered so willingly. May He bless you and continue to use you in His fields.

Think of it this way, Larry, the ministry is one profession you can never leave...it becomes a part of who you are.

Cheers and congratulations,
Dan

A long long path, with sharp stones and thorn under the bare feet, and yet, you never stopped walking as you carried the heavy burden of collecting other's sins so they could be forgiven.
Bless you on your 50th anniversary, I know that Him will wanted you for an encore.

Georg

THERE IS A SONG ENTITLED...'JESUS IS THE BEST THING...THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME' AND THERE IS A LINE THAT SAYS, ...'IF ANYONE SHOULD EVERY WRITE MY LIFE'S STORY, FOR WHATEVER REASON THERE MIGHT BE...GOD WILL BE THERE BETWEEN EACH LINE OF PAIN AND GLORY...' GOD WAS THERE WITH YOU IN THE BEGINNING AND HE WILL BE WITH YOU UNTIL THE END. HAPPY FIFTIETH YEAR OF PREACHING, SERVANT. THANKS FOR SHARING AND GOD BLESS. LOVE, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
