Dedicated to Dolores in memory of her husband.

Sadly, I Leave
By Kathy Armijo

We beat the Demon cancer before, but not this time.
You remained strong.  Never questioning,
Only wishing we had more time to be together, making more memories.
You, who were always my true love.
We shared forty-three incredible years.   I would have preferred one hundred.
However, my job here is done.
God has a bigger round-up ready for me.
Through the example of my life and death, I hope you find strength and continued peace in believing in Him.
Even in dying, I was single-minded in my love for you.  I asked God for an additional week hoping it would help all of you accept the inevitable.  He was kind and merciful.
I hated to see you this way.  Thankfully, God provided each of you an opportunity to share your deepest thoughts, without having to hear me say:
“I am sorry to be leaving you.  I thought I could beat it, again.”

But, I know that in your heart, you heard me say,
“Mi Querida,  live on for me
You will always be my love.
Go back to work, be there for our family,
Finish your bachelor’s degree,
That way the home we shared won’t seem so empty.
I know you will miss me but…
I will be there right beside you
Still caring for you.
Still loving you.
Know that one day we will be re-united.
I will do a better job of being a husband, here, in heaven,
even though I hoped I was a pretty good one while on earth.

Te amo!”

The death of one so loved can rend a spirit in two. It's so unselfish for that person to want to leave their own loved ones with such comforting thoughts. Thanks for sharing this.

...y su muerte convirtió my corazón en un saguaro abandonado en el medio del desierto, con sus brazos alzados, preguntándole a Diós, "porqué?"

...and her dead make of my heart an abandoned saguaro in the middle of the desert, with raised arms, asking God, "why?"

Dying with dignity...
I have a family member dealing with this right now. It is so incredibly hard to watch, but knowing that they are moving on to a better life is at least a small consolation...
