a guardian windsong
swirls through the country air
tumbleweeds toss and
dust devils blow
pride immersed
hesitate to pick thorny cactus
for it's sharp barbs prick
soft flesh finger
under and over
through fence and trees
causing my fall
onto my knees
watering my eyes
dirt on my cheeks
you windswept hillside
eroding before me
alas, I know your beauty
my appetite is fed
gazing your gift
soon will be wildflowers
