dinner tonight
shrimp scampi, wild rice
and a side of steamed baby carrots

served and displayed upon
mothers china
with a glass of crisp chardonnay

I sat at the table
and looked across
at the empty table setting

remembering a time
there had once been
dinner conversation

I thought of Einstein
and time relativity
if you traveled into space

when you returned
everything you previously knew
would have continued on

while you yourself
would return to
right where you took off

I raised my glass
and gave a toast
to the empty table setting

destiny did you wait for me
because I am now here
waiting patiently

A sad commentary on a universally recurring theme. Well-done, Debby. Love and peace. Regis

Sad, powerful, and leaves much food for thought, Debby.

Interesting premise to this poem, Debby, and one that I wholeheartedly like and approve of. To some of us, delusional and fabracted intimate scenes such as this, and even wilder one involving sexual acrobats, are the norm. Good write.
