this flock numbered 22 total and showed up on our lawn this morning

Poem Artwork

I looked out my window
and what did I see
a flock of turkeys looking at me

appropriate I thought
being that time of year
thanksgiving and all
a time for great cheer

or gratitude really
how hard can it be
neighborly gobbles
are thank you’s, you see

cooperative gestures
befriending and humble
peace on the earth and
sharing the love

so peck at my lawn
and eat on my seeds
worry not one feather
as you talk turkey to me

Wow what a sight that must have been, though I live in the suburbs of a major city, last winter two whitetail deer managed to somehow make their way and make a home in the small greenbelt behind my home. After feeding them apples and carrots for most of the winter it sure changed my perspective on hunting.
