a holy woman came to me
to tend the gardens
upon sacred grounds

she walked me through acres of beauty
an amazing place
a sanctuary filled with kind

overwhelmed at first at the size of it all
i could never take on this much work

relax, she said as we walked through
only work the place that calls out to you

i knew immediately the roses were calling
somewhat neglected but beautifully majestic

i accepted the destiny

you have chosen well she said to me
these are precious and need your love

in working the bushes they resisted at first
and bled my arms with their thorns

but i suffered the pain for within the branches
i saw the inner beauty

the promise of color, the soft of the petals
and oh…
the intoxicating scent

and how like life this garden is
growing the beauty
by enduring the pain
