washing a glass I looked out the back window
the sky was clear the winds had calmed
the aftermath of wind storm had left its mark
overturned chairs, a broken ashtray,
tangled windchimes, leaves and debris
work to do, would keep me busy
but before I retrieved the broom
I thought I'd sit in the sun, enjoy a moment
closing my eyes, I smiled, and smelled his cigar
I hadn't thought of him, my dad, in far too long
and there he was like I knew him
I leaned back in his arms, felt his hug
and listened while he rambled on
we reminisced, the ghosts of moments
we had shared, and he said "you know
that’s all they are, not heavy stones"
he also remembered, how I floated away
whether eyes opened or closed
he'd notice me sit, lost in some thought
far away from the world, taking journeys
only I'd know
he'd bring me back, snapping his fingers
or waving his hand, wondering always
where I had been, sometimes the memory
was perfectly clear, sometimes I just didn't know
so he says, go now, while you sit here with me
take a journey beyond your mind, allow the
vision to come to you…and I did
it was a spring day, clear blue skys, the gentlest breeze
I wandered barefoot in gauze cotton dress
across a grass meadow, with occasional wildflowers
as I stood up from picking one, I felt the breeze
it became arms, hugging me close, comforting close
like mother/father, sister/brother, child, and lover
all the hugs rolled into one, nestling my face upon its shoulder
arms you could linger and savor, both strong and graceful
so wonderful you think perhaps you've died
and this must be heaven, as the bliss you feel
makes you sob, because it is the most beautiful
feeling you have ever felt, then you spin and turn
letting this joy fill you full, I felt myself running
skipping and hopping, playing and grinning
I twirled myself into the arms of your face
hands tilting my mouth to greet your lips
that delivered to me, the most perfect kiss
tender, soft, gentle, melting lips
arousing they pressed adding more kiss
that feeling again, in near sob bliss
I'm returned to the arms of daddy’s love
who's wiping the tears rolling down my cheek
"did you enjoy it" he said, oh yes, "daddy I did
I so wonderfully did"
and then he told me, "you know it is you,
that you see out there", and with that, he disappeared
oh my, I'd have to let that sink in for awhile
and give it some time to take a hold
in the meantime, guess I'll get that broom
seems to be some work to do
Love Tinka
I lost my father three years ago; and I often still visit with him, and I can still smell his cigars and hear his words in my ear.
Well done!
