A view of the poet from fears to ultimate respect.

 The Poet

Why poetry and why rhyme?
Must I rhyme every time?
What if I miss or didn’t come close?
Would they reject me, or worse, not post?

What if the meter didn’t follow a rhythm?
You hear everyone in concert, but I wasn’t with um.
Would they jeer me and taunt, or give me a break?
Would they judge me and leer or call me a fake?

The poet is known for wisdom and grace,
Inspires, arouses, provides insight to embrace.
But poems are remembered for only a while,
and poets their wisdom disposed is defiled.

Yet, if by chance, the poem should rouse,
and cause one to stand and ready his house;
prepare for adventure or entrepreneur,
inspire ideas till triumph is sure.

Then will the poet no longer be judged.
His meter and rhythm are never begrudged.
His duty fulfilled, his virtue secured,
His legend is written, his honor assured.
