Pulls its shades on the beating sun,
protects from visibility like disappearing ink.
Night is visible to those in the light.
The night dresses in long black gowns.
Light posts shine on the beauty of shadowed bushes.
Night’s stars: God’s eyes on the world,
the moon His lighthouse keeper, letting
all corners of the globe be bathed
in reflective glow. Night trumpets
rest, its rustling leaves usher mystery.
I love the night: it creeps up on you
like a child’s game, everything
is possible. Ride it to its end
at the dull dawn light of nothingness,
or hide from it under covers
and eye shades like clouds masking
the stars. Embrace the night
like a new born baby
