PRECIOUS SIGHT
Did you open your eyes this morning and see the beautiful sunrise.
Or did you sigh, forget its beauty, and complain about getting up so early?
When you saw the snow fall, did you appreciate each single flake,
Catch them on your tongue, or did you begrudgingly get out the snow shovel, not seeing even one?
If where you live skies are blue and sun is plenty,
Did you look at the sunflowers the sun created?
Or did you look at the ground in apathy?
Why do I ask these things, you wonder.
It’s important to appreciate the things you see
And all their splendor
Not long ago, my sight was briefly taken from me
I didn’t understand why God did this, or why he was
punishing me. Why was everything dark?
I pondered and pondered this, and realized
What I’d had was a wonderful gift.
But through God and modern medicine, my precious sight
Was restored.
Now I understand what God had done. He’d opened my eyes
By closing them.
It is a beautiful world filled with all sorts of wonders if you’d just look
And see. And when you forget the beauty of the world, remember
This poem and remember me.
Therefore, I honestly appreciate this poem more today than a month ago.
Keep in touch and take care.
