We were sitting at a table in our favorite Italian Restaurant
dining by candlelight. After we ate our
meal, my loved one pulled out a small box. He
showed the box to me and slowly opened the lid. Inside was a
diamond ring too beautiful to behold. He looked into
my eyes, swallowed and looked at me. He tenderly
looked at the box, and said, “Will you marry me?”
I took the ring, and choked out a teary “yes.” I
couldn’t say more.
The box was rather strange for it held two rings, one
with five diamonds, when we were younger could never
afford. But there was a smaller one next to it; I asked what it was
for. He said it was a friendship ring, he smiled,
looked at me and said, “Honey, after these 25 years of marriage,
you’re still my best friend”.
The waterworks from my eyes came rushing down my face,
tears of joy as I looked at the man I loved, no one could
replace. And as if on queue, our favorite song began to play,
“This Magic Moment” and that’s what it truly was.
I looked again at the rings, put the big one my left hand,
the smaller on my right. Once again I looked at him,
and though the rings were very beautiful, I thought to myself
This wonderful man I married was the real gem.
