Yamka & The Eagle Feathers

I like to yield orrisroot and the blackberry lily
with a mix of other rhizomes, corms and bulbs
I gather them early spring in my yucca basket
The one that Yamka made for me years ago

She often spoke of the new moons
Where the flowers are abundantly infinite
Dancing under the pearlescent light
The blossoms open to honor the phasing moon

I recall her showing me how the ivy grows
We walked near the ravine gathering stones
She showed me how to find wild asparagus
And lost arrowheads in the sand of cactus

I was just looking at my wooden wind mill
the storms broke the blades yesterday
I am grateful to the wind storm though
The squirrel families rotting tree was spared

Have you noticed my potters urns are filled
I thought I would grow some carnations
Seems the mites always get to my gladiolas
So this year I have planted some more hollyhocks

I was wondering about the pheasants too
As I watched my dogs flushing the wild grasses
I thought about those peacocks and eagle feathers
Wondering if I should put them in my hat…

I love stories put to poetry and song. We honor the knowledge of our ancestors and pass on our beliefs in this way. M.True

Dear Victoria,

Your poetic thoughts are very timely. I just met some American Indians in my travels in Colorado. One was my cab driver who took me to the airport where I spent a weekend in San Diego. In our conversation I mentioned how good asparagus is to her and she took off about how asparagus saved her life. You see a Dr. Keller took the main substance of asparagus and put it into a capsule form. It cured her cancer. I can go on if you wish. It's a long but timely story as I have friends who are suffering with convention medicine. Somehow I feel our native Americans are much wiser than the white bread imported breed. That includes this Italian mixed nut.

Peace, love and blessings,

Giovanni

You weave words like no one other, Victoria. The basket weavers sat and listened to your stories while they weaved...broken wheel spokes and broken windmill blades are mending so that we may continue on the journey of the Wheel of Life...the new moons are here...this is a survivor's poem transformed by pestle and mortar...and feather...your hat is worn with wisdom...pheasants, feathers and flowers oh the beauty of your words...

Yours xoxo

I have a feather found myself, Vickie. I'm not a pack rat, but certain things I walk upon I pick up and save, like the feather and a small Spiderman which I super-glued to my monitor. The closer you can be to the Spiderman the safer you are. Heh.Heh

Indeed, and I like finding them, too.
