ACCEPTING RESPONSBILITY FOR ONES ACTIONS AND PRESENT SITUATIONS IS NOT EASY FOR ANY OF US...BUT ESPECIALLY FOR THE YOUNG. THANKS FOR SHARING THIS WELL DONE WORK WITH PHRASES AND IMAGERY THAT WELL EXPRESS THE PERPLEXITIES OF THE TASK. GOD BLESS AND LOVE,

Gosh,,, This is a sad write,,, Makes me want to reach out in some way,,,some kids are raised in elements that are not ideal,,, not what one might choose.... May he find peace and live a wonderful productive life!

What you described is something that most people identify with ... memories that stick with us forever; we own them. I really like your style, you tend to choose your words carefully.
Dawn; this is such a beautiful and meaningful write. For some reason it spoke to me in ways that are hard to explain. Seems that when we get older, those crosses become more plentiful…Excellent piece.
PS: That was such an interesting comment you made about the Mimosa…its color over there and the beautiful custom that the Italians observe. I know that when I was over there in 1976 I found the Italian people, their customs and country to be beyond words of beauty. I would love to find out more about the mimosa custom… My wife thought it to be so very sweet and beautiful…take care and God Bless

Having experienced these kind of memories, I must say, forgotten are not memories healed. We can not shut the door on the past, we must learn to incorporate it into lessons of life, no matter how it hurts, soon there will be memories of happy times spent and the healing begins.

Dawn, many students live in the past and cannot seem to kick those memories that nip at their ankles. It's sad when this happens. I've seen some go a lifetime wondering around aimlessly with memories of the past. This is an excellent write.
Yes, a beautiful portrayal of the "Why me?!" syndrome. I can identify with this idea that memory "chooses us" to inhabit, irrespective of the "truth" of our past. Fascinating write, Dawn, that is laced with personal meaning. I am sure your student will cherish this write and perhaps it might bring some sort of needed release in some way. Bless you, Kate xx
Very nice poem for your student. Young people go through many challenges when they are young, some are normal growing up challenges, some are devastating. Hope your young man can overcome whatever memories that haunt him.
Life can feel very heavy at times and I know it easier to say then to feel it but nothing remains the same and if we stop and think about our life we soon realize it has turned out this way because of choices we have made in the past although not many wany want to admit to it. Thank you for sharing.
After reading this excellent offering of a 'student,' I must say that your teaching has joined with a singular talent, and you and the student are rewarded. I like this kind of poetry, and know that it is so dear to you. With love, - Bill
Beautiful, gentle and exquisite writing. The stroke of your pen is smoothe my friend. Life is quite a burden to carry but all must experience the good and bad of it. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.

Nostalgia reared it head here . . . A poem about choices . . . Well, not quite, more like destiny . . . Good . . .
This write and its images, sights and sounds not to mention smells bring me into the picture as if it were written for me. A tear came to my eye, it is one of your best Dawn

I can feel a bit of Poe in this one, something of the thought-apparitions pushing pushing toward some obsessive goal of their own. This poem has depth far beyond its few lines. Brilliant piece, Dawn!
Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
