Ironic Contradiction

My thoughts are many when I think of you,

most filled with contradiction –

like now –

I sit in this cold, lifeless room with tears in my eyes,

yet there’s a smile on my lips.

Even though miles away,

you still haunt me,

but then, it’s so like you.

Self involved –

always busy searching for yourself,

as if you couldn’t know who and what you were.

So busy searching, you never did see me.

Ironic, isn’t it,

because I was always blind when it came to you –

that in itself makes me just as guilty,

for we all see and hear exactly what we choose –

don’t we?

We dismiss much, sometimes too much caring for another and only after we are separated from the situation do we realize our own mistake in that. Wonderful write.

There is a time when we all find that our own mind can take the reality of things and twist them into whatever we wish for them to be...sometimes we fault ourselves even though it takes more than one to create those thoughts...

nice work Dawn...

Everyone has these opposites and you express that with great emotion. I read your comment to all readers. I think a good mark of a writer is being able to write sad when you are happy and vice versa. Nicely penned!

Fabulously wrought, Dawn. So acute. Yes, it would seem that so many men only see themselves and so many women only see the men in their life. But we can't blame anyone for the choices we make as to WHAT we see or hear, absolutely spot on. You do good with your people-watching.. Perhaps, in a Buddhist life, you'd be a fly on the wall! :)) xx

You summed up your poetry to perfection... always that little ironic contradiction that makes me go...Ah! To see life as it really is...a talent you have, and in expressing it.

Dawn - Excellent poem on our societies love affair with self-absorption.

These lines say it all:

Self involved –

always busy searching for yourself,

as if you couldn’t know who and what you were.

So busy searching, you never did see me.

If the truth be known, far too many are interested only in themselves as opposed to reaching out to others needs, nicely said...

I would just like to thank everyone so much for reading and commenting..but please know that I am fine and things are going well! This poem was not written about me or about anything that I am going through. I love psychology, studying relationships, and the human condition...and that is what I have written about, but know that I am happy that my work brings forth such strong feelings. Thank you!

Your well chosen words speak for so many of us. Would that we had a chalk board where bad relationships could be erased, and not even the residue seen! I'm at a disadvantage never having gone through this kind of healing, but have been close to many who have. Thank you for a crisp and clear statement of how it is with too many.

Dawn, I wish to echo Amber: I like everything you write.
There's a lot of heart in what you write, and a lot of wisdom.
And of course a lot of what it takes to pull it all together:
immense talent. -gene.

Deep and self searching but also with a resigned acceptance, often we are blinded by love and only see the hidden flaws when the novelty of love wears off and reality sets in. Well written almost like reading a letter to a lover.

My sweet lovely friend, Yes Love is blind, We do only see and hear what we want, when we are deeply in love, that no reason or rhyme can be made of it. Afterthoughts, do make sense however of why and what we did not get from the relationship...It took me two years to get over this man that started my poetry career...lol I wrote from the pain of that relationship and voila, it is where I am now with my writing, so I salute all the men that have given me pain, for now I have more wisdom and knowledge (not done yet of course) to share with my readers as you are right now. We are but a mere moment in time, sweetie, and next year you will be writing from your wisdom and enlightenment. I love your work, and I stress that you never stop. I enjoy everything you write.
Much peace, love, and light, and Ciao,

Do we? This is a cool poem, Dawn. He is so busy searching for himself that he cannot see you. But you obviously knew this and your wisdom and insight will not allow you to share the blame (think about it). He lives in a fantasy world where nobody is in his mirror, apparently. We must allow those fantasy people to walk on by, for now. Maybe they will wake up some day, and maybe they will find us. Will we still be waiting? Maybe not. Write on :-)

Ted
