Is the knob turning? Is it a sigh that we hear?
What is that moaning that is coming from the houses rear?

Poem Artwork

Diamond crystals in the night.
Bright flashes of emerald light.
Silvery glints of moonlight, pale.
Tinkling sounds of summertime hail.

Music, low and seemingly from a distance.
Wails of sound and someone's unearthly existence.
Creaking doors and a footstep or two.
Pale, shimmery figures of a spirtual hue.

An old house with so many spooky sounds.
Next we will hear the baying of hounds!
Leave all these things to a vivid imagination.
Surely these things must have a scientific explanation.

Yes, this house is certainly old and creepy.
I must admit I am way past being sleepy.
What was that sound?!
Good grief, Charlie Brown!

'Go to sleep!', I tell myself in exasperation.
It is only the by product of a long days expectation.
When you move into a house as old as this one is indeed...
you expect to think its haunted, its a fictionally planted seed.

Does this make it more appealing to you or does it not?
To be honest, as sleepy as I am right now...I lean towards the not.
I just want to lie my aching head on that nice, soft, fluffy pillow...
and dream simple dreams, like one of me sitting under a graceful willow.

Nothing fancy or too complicated.
I want a dream that is definately understated.
Yet, here I am...at a quarter past two...
still awake and not sure of what to do.

Tomorrow we both will laugh and say it was just the wind.
Tonight, we are inclined to think it is more, don't we my friend?
The footsteps out in the hall are frightening to you and me here,
I strain my eyes at our doorknob, as you pull me near.

Is the knob turning? Is it a sigh that we hear?
What is that moaning that is coming from the houses rear?
Good grief! I am so tired and so in need of sleep.
Maybe we should just leave and jump into the Jeep.

"No! I am obstinate! This is my house, mine!
I will not leave this house so divine.
So whoever is haunting are the ones that must go.
I wish I could share but this just won't be so!"

There is room only for the living and that is us two.
To rid ourselves from this haunting is what we must do.
Tomorrow I will go forth to send this ghost or ghosts onto the light.
Then, maybe then...we can sleep peacefully again at night.

Dr. Seuss meets Stephen King. Don't know if that was your intention, but it's a very well done spoof. Good job. You might want to read it aloud to yourself a few times. You can cut or change a word here and there to make the rhythm smoother without losing any of the impact. Such as:

"No! I am obstinate! This is my house, mine!
I will not leave this house so divine.
So whoever is haunting are the ones that must go.
I wish I could share but this just won't be so!"

Silly, Moon! Aren't nighttime haunts your element?! ;) Very engaging write, Silver! I love old houses, so much to explore and feel inside of their battered dignity, and, yes, a spirit or two may be lurking...
