You know I love you America but you can’t marry my son and take him away on your promised honeymoon in foreign lands where his sun browned skin and red blood has no value except to save a rich mans’ treasure one more day.

You know I love you America but I am forced to weep as I watch you becoming a tasteless whore who sells not only herself but her hungry children as she lies to them and leads them to think that they are gladiators and those in the stands of the worlds’ arenas are cheering for them.

You know I love you America as I watch you sink into a bottomless pit where today’s children become tomorrow’s pawns in a no win game that has no time for love, honor or future unless of course they are born rich.

You know I love you America as I feel you drain the strength of your elders and watch your dismay because of their increased life expectancy as you increase the coffers of the pharmaceutical industry via TV ads which say ask your doctor about, ”That’s a Cough” a new prescription drug on your next visit as if your doctor is ill equipped to write you a proper prescription.

You know I love you America as you become a star in a horror movie and eat up most of the earth’s resources while falsely wallowing in ill gotten riches which aid in the enslavement of poorer nations futures as you pretend to sell them on democracy.

You know I love you America as I watch your beauty fading away in what was once your beautiful cities and united is a word transformed into a meaningless mantra recited by the few.
You know I love you America as I watch your current illness rapidly speed up your death because you refuse to take the medications which would save you
You do remember caring, sharing, dreaming, building and protecting your children don’t you?

You know I love you America because in my dreams I know what you can become other than the spoiled self centered bitch that you are.
Who is to blame for your delinquency?
You and I who sit silently by and say to no one in particular.
You know America is not my child she is just my friend and is a fully grown woman capable of giving birth to stronger children isn’t she?

A politician, is a politician. No matter the party, no matter the sex, no matter promises. They care about their bank accounts. . .only. But America was built from protecting the rights of our people and the Freedoms of all others. We live to die and die to live. It isn't right, it isn't fair, but it's life.

Beautiful and powerful poem Mikii, just a forceful punch of realism.

America, the land of opportunity, is a wonderful country but poor leadership may lead us to fail in life.

Thank you poet.

All valid points.
Reminds me of something Plato said about his world. We still have the same complaints. Maybe this is the earth's struggle between reason and apathy.

Good writing, Mikii. Glad to see you've inked your pen again. You've been missed.

Love,
Elizabeth

America is a wonderful nation-title should have been Dear Mr. Bush.
I love this country and somehow the valor of past wars (WWI and WWII) just don't ring through today.

We have moved from aide in arms to conquerors one and all-scary.

Thanks,
~D.
