Days

Flashy ways these long, verbose days,
fidgets harmlessly in wind and rain,
never vulnerable to lunar calling,
to mock winter and spring with indifference,
imperils nature's rebirth in frosty breath,
entwines sanctimonious ceremony into turmoil,
a godsend to all who await a reckoning,
discards these torrid souls as easily as yesterdays,
chimes out its journey guilt free,
like voodoo it declines into reverence,
this nuisance which constantly changes,
jolting all out of their uncertainty,
fastens onto months and years with abandonment,
an intersection offering only stop or yield,
this wordplay never to cover indulgences,
trickster, playful with hot and cold,
frolicsome demeaner catches all,
nudges one into acceptance,
hints of how spring can be but
chronicles winter's slow demise with
excursions into past and present,
elation for aged memories made and
rapture in a day just like today,
blithe souls with much to offer,
woebegone in youth's frantic haste,
decrees that it will certainly return again but always older.
