It's nice to be in a place
where I understand those around me--
what they are saying.
Having lived in a foreign world
for nearly two years
I am now used to not knowing
what those around me are saying.
Not that I like to eaves drop
on others conversations,
but I would like to know if they are cursing
or complaining about me.
I've heard others say, that speak the language,
that they heard the locals
badmouthing them on the street
oblivious to the fact that the recipient
of their gossip could understand them.
However, my experience with foreign peoples
has always, most always, been good.
One can always get on their good side
if one attempts to learn their culture
and to speak their native tongue.
This usually puts a smile on their face
and puts them at ease with you.
But, it is nice to be in this place
where I understand those around me
and what they are saying.
