coming home wasn't quite the same
as I'd hoped it would be
while I was away
things had changed
and my absence is a handicap
in catching up with change
but change is slow once you're home
it's making up for the lost time that's hard
maybe there is no catching up
maybe it's for people like me
to accept the change
and live with our handicap
either way
I'm left to mourn
the way it used to be

I know what you mean in part I suppose-
I came home.. I can't change.. neither will my "handicap"- I'm going away again soon
They always say change is a good thing, but I don't necessarily agree to that 100% of the time. Unfortunately, most the time change occurs, it's inevitable either way that you chose to go.
Your writing is very real and modern.

Change is not always bad, the test of time
makes it better, because you are here to
tell about it, that is being a winner....
and you are a winner.
Memories will never leave you, but people will if you don't go with the flow. Must admit, the older I get, the harder it is to go with the flow. [smiles]
Most people have handicaps of one kind or another. Me I choose to live live to the fullest and to deal with any handicaps I have with love and some humor. It seems to help me. You might want to read my poem A hose on my nose. For in a way this is a handicap for me. But I choose to laugh,smile and live. Great write.
This is a book of free verse poetry that addresses the seven main tests in life and offers some sensible solutions to passing those tests with minimal discomfort.
