Myopia

A fly was in my oatmeal and I begged my mom, “Come see!”
She looked and laughed, “That’s nothing but a raisin there you see.”

“How sure are you?” I asked my mom. “I thought I saw it jump
From that small piece of cinnamon, to that big oatmeal lump!”

“It did not,” she exclaimed. “You just refuse to see I’m right.
“Now, take that raisin in your spoon and swallow every bite!” 

“Look there! It moved again, and it’s a fat horse-fly!” I whined.
"A raisin,” she rebuked me. “You have merely closed your mind.”

Just then the fly leapt from my bowl and buzzed around in flight.
“Aha!” I yelled, “Whose mind is closed? You’re wrong and I am right!”

She spoke not, but then washed my bowl out in the kitchen basin,
And shook her head in awe, “My word! A real-life flying raisin!”
