Seven of my thirteen children are from Haiti. In addition, I spent six years working with the Foyer de Sion orphanage in Haiti. I quickly fell in love with the people of Haiti and Haiti became my second home. A part of my heart will always be in Haiti...

   Soul Etchings
(written in the Pantoum form)

Haiti, the land that I love!
My soul has been forever etched
with your offerings from above.
Your land in my heart is sketched.

My soul has forever been etched
with beautiful memories of you.
Your land in my heart is sketched
                                 in every color and hue

with beautiful memories of you
running constantly through my brain
in every color and hue,
like a musical refrain.

Running constantly through my brain-
the images of this place,
like a musical refrain,
leave an indelible trace.

The images of this place
carved a pathway through my veins
and left an indelible trace.
The down pouring of the rain

carved a pathway through my veins
‘til my heart beat just for you…
From the down pouring of the rain
when I became a Haitian true ,

my heart's beaten just for you.
With your offerings from above
I became a Haitian true …
Oh!
Haiti, the land that I love!

I feel your heart in this poem. It is a heart of Gold.

God bless you!

May a million more parents without childen do what you have done. This is one way we can have some balance in a lop-sided world.

Amen!

I'm not a good judge of your form, but it was beautiful, almost like a national anthem. As much as anything, I commend you for having a broad and bountiful heart, Cryssa. Those among us who could do what you do are very, very rare...jerry

Wow! you choose poetry forms that are so difficult (Terza Rima, and now Pantoum form) yet you seem to handle them with ease and flair. The lines flow and the rhymes don't sound forced. Amazing!

thanks for sharing your love for Haiti...

take care,

WRP

Seven of my thirteen children <---- I've just got up off the floor...
Hati, you likie...Great poem, not just for its brilliance, but also bringing a land like Hati, that on this side of the planet, we only ever think about if they make it to the soccer world cup. This poem makes me wanna put Hati on the list of places to visit....

Sounds like an Anthem, Cryssa, and my heartbeat quickens along with the passion of your words. How wonderful to so completely feel at home in a place... and to literally take it's people to your bosom. Your life has been richly blessed with all shades of the emotional colour spectrum and we are privileged for you to share your rainbow of words and feelings with us here. TY Kate xx

What a beautiful, soul felt poem of your love for Haiti. Your extreme dedication and passion for Haiti is evident from the powerful words you used. My favorite line is:
carved a pathway through my veins
‘til my heart beat just for you…" showing it is a part of you, not just a place somewhere in the world, it is in your soul.
Luv,
Ahna

You know what? This really works. --really well. I don't know about that word "beaten" though. Do you mean "beatin'"? Or is it really beaten black and blue? This reads like a song. There is one line that pokes out a bit more than the others: "and left an indelible trace"-- the second one-- But still, it works better than either of my pantoums did. So kudos-- hats off to you, little sis. --Charlie and BTW, Ahna's mirror story was brilliant. Congrats on having such a good writer for a daughter. --Charlie
